Artist History
They can't exactly dance, but there is one thing that the boys of Invention Seven will guarantee: they'll rock it in more ways than you can imagine. There is no simple answer to the question they are commonly asked: "what kind of music do you play?" Well, it's one cup of rock, two heaping tablespoons of punk, a teaspoon of blues and four ounces of heavy metal. Add just a pinch of ska and an alternative edge and, viola, you have made one Invention Seven. The truth is, this band plays a wide variety of musical styles and are influenced by a spectrum of artists. Whether it's the heavier riffs that get you moving, or the mellower groove that tickles your fancy, Invention Seven will bring it.
Created through the union of Brandon Carder, Ed Kaczynski, Ken Partell and, later, Jeff Partell, Invention Seven is the story of four best friends making music together. The goal of the original project was simply to have fun playing a few cover tunes. While expanding beyond the fundamental horizons, Invention Seven plays on primarily because they have a blast making music with each other. Since October of 1996, the four have been merging four distinct personalities into a single beam of energy to produce a sound very much their own.
Brandon is the rhythm guitarist and promotion guru. If you’re talking to someone online who claims to be in Invention Seven, nine times out of ten it will be Brandon. He tirelessly books, promotes and creates contacts for the band. Among all these duties, he still finds time to be the Webmaster of Invention Seven Dot Com. Brandon lends I7 its heavier facets, being influenced by such hard rock legends as Led Zeppelin.
Ed is unarguably the “sound guy” for the band and an enormous talent. As lead guitarist, his sense of pitch and ability to feel out the right resonance, echo, hum, jingle and thud is unparalleled. Heavily influenced by rap, R&B, dance and house music, he adds a modern edge to the rock sound of Invention Seven.
Ken is the most stubborn, unrelenting member of the band so it’s only natural that he also serves as the spiritual leader of the band. Whether it be motivating I7 to jump around or having unquestioned confidence in the band’s ability, he gives the band direction and poise. Musically, Ken adds a pop-rock sound to the band’s music as its drummer and part-time lead singer.
Jeff is, without a doubt, the musical leader of Invention Seven. Writing songs is what he does best and it shows, as almost all of I7’s songs originated from his music and are accompanied by his lyrics. A great talent, Jeff brings a variety of sounds to the table, mostly influenced by such greats as Dylan, Morrison and a plethora of others.
Pushing forward at full throttle, Invention Seven uses its distinctive ability to play sounds from a wide variety of musical styles to perk up the ears of its audience. Together, the four friends put their souls into their music, whether that music is rock, blues, pop, ska or even rap is an entirely different question. The college-aged quartet is having a blast playing together. As far as Invention Seven is concerned, that is all that matters!
