Artist History
Formed in Grand Rapids Michigan in 2001, Dissonant
was conceived as a band that would blend the brutality
of the American hardcore scene, with elements of the Swedish
Gothenburg sound and Norwegian Black Metal.
A six-piece band, Dissonant consists of the thrash
metal guitar styling of Ben Allen and Scott Johnson,
a thunderous rhythm section with bassist Tony Caruso
and drummer AJ Barrette, rounded out by the black metal
keyboard and vocal styling of Mike Nolan, and vicious
lead vocals of Jake Farran. With the release of an
early 2001 demo soon after their inception, Dissonant
quickly conquered west Michigan and set their eyes on touring.
2002 saw the release of Dissonant's "Darken the Hour CDEP"
on All or Nothing Records. Soon after, Dissonant
began touring regularly, playing all across the Midwest
and East Coast with such acts as Superjoint Ritual
, Five Pointe O, Sworn Enemy, Eighteen Visions, Mastodon,
Kittie, E-Town Concrete, Most Precious Blood, Terror,
the Takeover, Hatebreed, Glassjaw, As I lay Dying,
Dope, 3rd. Strike, Goatwhore, Shadows Fall, Mushroomhead,
Taproot, Boy Sets Fire, Social Burn, Cradle of Filth,
and Killswitch Engage. Summer 2003 found Dissonant on
the road, including appearances at the Detroit Warped
tour stop, and 7 direct support dates with Mushroomhead
side project (216). Having sold just under 2000
copies of Darken the Hour by mid summer 2003, and
believing proper preparation and production leads to
quality recordings, this summer also found Dissonant
demoing new material for their upcoming full
length, being recorded this winter. This new material should bring an
increased maturity and intensity to Dissonant and will
lead them back on tour for the coming year. Dissonant
has also been confirmed to showcase at this year Midpoint
Music Conference in Cincinnati Ohio, over the weekend
of September 25th, 26th, and 27th. (www.mpmf.com).
Expect to see their first full length release sometime in spring
‘04 through an as yet unannounced label, and as always
check out the live brutality on tour. |
