Artist description
Sometimes difficult to see in broad daylight, it may be best to look away. Bonfyr Verboo can
shift between dimensions with the ease that most of us shift in our seats.
He has many talents, far to many for a comprehensive list at this location (an attempt to do so would clog
your server), however, an attempt to list some which are relavent follows: singer, songwriter, guitarist, recording
engineer-producer-mixer, computer programmer, web master, writer, poet,
painter, illustrator, sculptor. He was brought into this world, kicking
and screaming, in 1966. He will leave the same way, but not soon. He is the husband
of Liliana, aka: Betty. He cares for a cat whose name is impossible to interpret
into letters. He resides in San Antonio, Texas, USA... |

Artist History
King Walnut (visit "Under Observation" on MP3.com) and Bonfyr Verboo began a
collaboration in 1990, that led to what
was later refered to as Froth Minus (also available on MP3.com).
In its original incarnation, in early 1993,
it was a three headed, magikal, musical octopus answering to the moniker Don't Mock Us.
The three heads consisted of King Walnut, Bonfyr Verboo and
Gary Dryhurst, a guitarist/singer/songwriter. In June 1993, Hints at the Wrong Direction,
their first attempt at recording was finished. In the next few months, an
assortment of others joined them, until by the end of the year, Jordan at percussion
and Christopher Smith at bass settled in, forming Froth Minus.
The song "Human Soul" represents the pinnacle of Froth Minus'
musical career, as well as its eventual end. The version on the live album,
Live at Castle Rock, was recorded just a few short weeks before Froth Minus
disbanded in 1995.
In 1993, Bonfyr Verboo and his long-time friend Abraxox, a psycholinguist of mystical and
magikal proportions, joined forces to form Abstract Dreamteching. Calling
themselves XOX (yes, available on MP3.com),
they began to record. By the middle of 1994, Bonfyr Verboo
was away from Froth Minus to direct his full attention to XOX.
XOXs first album was released on Christmas Day in 1994. Life is Opened features a
unique sound, completely uncharacteristic of Bonfyr Verboos earlier endeavors.
It was recieved with warm appreciation by critics at the time but did not sell well,
as is so often the case of experimental music. In 2002, the digital remaster, available
on CD, enjoyed a slightly warmer reaction.
By early 1995, Froth Minus had fallen into disrepair, and by July, were no more.
At the same time Bonfyr Verboo was breaking new ground, combining the melodic
tendencies of Froth Minus with the avant garde feeling of XOX.
"Crowd of Souls", the first
piece produced by XOX since L.I.O., combined an underlying digital sound,
masterfully performed by Abraxox, with the acoustic guitar and wavering vocal of
Bonfyr Verboo. On April 19, 1995, the events of the day inspired Bonfyr Verboo
to record a chilling and powerful piece, entitled
"After the Blast: Element of Revenge".
From the same
time period sprang "Flow" and "Nothing", positively opposing.
Over the next several years, Bonfyr Verboo turned his attention to writing and
XOX slipped away. In 2001, after finding small success, he returned to music,
but on an altogether different track. Bonfyr Verboo embraced the computer age
with both arms. Over a period of a few months, using two off the shelf programs
and a 10,000 sample sound library, he has crafted eleven new songs
(one with Abraxox), entirely
on a computer keyboard. Also, discovering mp3 format, he has issued these songs
for the world to hear, here on MP3.com. In the near future, he plans to encode
some of the older, more choice numbers mentioned above, as well as perhaps
one or two others.
For now, Bonfyr Verboo is in the studio producing the first recordings
of an undiscovered talent named Joey Zoeller (he too can be found on MP3.com).
Stay tuned... |

Press Reviews
San Antonio Music Review Weekly-March 31, 1995--
Froth Minus played to a full house tonight at Rock Island. A couple of their songs
were long and a little lazy, but several of them stood out. "Hangin" was the
first to grab my attention. A little jazz fusion never hurt anyone. The singer,
King Walnut, doing
what he could to keep our attention on him, did a good job, singing in an unusual
manner, kind of like Television and Talking Heads combined.
Another winner, "Wires In My Head", thrust itself on the shocked crowd.
After that hundred mile an hour screamer, there was no going back.
Other good songs included "Bully Pulpit" and "Human Soul" a new song, played
live for the first time tonight.
Froth Minus has some work to do, like cutting the down time between songs, and
tightening up the rythem section, but altogether they put on a fair show. Not bad
for a $2 cover charge.--

San Antonio Music Review Weekly-August 20, 1995--
The single release by XOX, entitled "Crowd Of Souls" has kept me at my speakers
for the past several hours. It's not the music itself which has done this,
I like the song too, but it's the ending. There seem to be hundreds of voices
recorded on this song, the "Crowd" I presume, which tell a dozen different stories.
Some funny, some sad, some down right bad. As for the song itself, I think this is by
far the most listenable song XOX has made. The guitar is simple, the keyboard is
haunting, the voice is wavering. Overall I give this song 3 out of 5 notes.--

San Antonio Music Review Weekly July 16, 2001--
Bonfyr Verboo has returned with a single called "The Soul Of My Computer".
This is a short, experimental project which gives the listener a couple of interesting
minutes. There is a sample taken from "Human Soul" by Froth Minus, a short lived,
locally successful band which he used to be a part of. I give "The Soul Of My
Computer" three and a half notes.--
