Artist description Born and raised in Cuba, Cordero followed his familys rich musical traditions from an early age. In 1992, new life was breathed into these traditions when he and his band were invited to perform at the famous Calle Ocho festival in Miami. The performance led to a record deal and the subsequent recording in Miami of the first album, "Rompiendo el hielo", which was such a success that it remained on the American charts for 6 months. The recording of two further albums, "Del Norte Y Tropical" in 1996 and "AL TIEMPO" in 1999 followed this success. "AL TIEMPO" won best album at the 1999 Danish Radio World Music Awards and journalists referred to Cordero as a "captivating singer and songwriter, and a completely natural driving force for both band and audience". In the spring of 2000, Jorges dream of recording with some of the worlds best salseros and other latin greats came true. After hearing some of Jorges earlier works, ex Fania All Stars percussionist Alex Leon was so impressed that he invited Jorge to Miami to discuss possibilities of working together. The trip led to the recording of Jorges first solo project, the album "Salsa Global". Salsa Global was recorded at the famous Cuban singer Willie Chirinos Zarabanda Studios in Miami. The album is a tropical cocktail with a taste of Cuba, Miami, New York, Colombia and Puerto Rico and features a host of major salsa stars including Domingo Quiñones (RMM), Yanko (RMM), Mario Ortiz, Pedro Perez and Alex Leon (BMG) as well as singers from the famous Grupo Niche. The album will be released on the Temba Music label in Denmark in June 2001 and in the rest of Europe and USA in October 2001.
