Artist description Mixdown 1999 is a project of the Usenet Newsgroup alt.binaries.sounds.samples.music. The concept originated with group member Farley in an attempt to explore avenues to creativity, and promote a sense of community. Participants downloaded a group of samples or loops that were pre-selected by Farley, and then used those sounds and ONLY those sounds to create their individual compositions.

Artist History Participants used computer software and hardware to modify and process the sounds in the Official Loop Pack, and created 24 completely different-sounding compositions, using the same small set of sounds.

Group Members Some 24 members of alt.binaries.sounds.samples.music participated in Mixdown Spring 1999, the inaugural Mixdown event. The event was open to all, and has spawned three Mixdowns since. MP3 files from those events will be uploaded, and will be available from links on this page when that happens.
