Artist History
After the demise of 'Sedition' in '93 and 'Disaffect' in late '94, Andy and I.B. started writing some new tunes with a view to playing in a slower, heavier style. Angus (ex-Sedition) was asked if he’d be interested in handling the vocal duties,Billy (ex-Sedition and Disaffect) was asked to play second guitar, and Jason (ex-Stretchheads) was approached to handle drumming duties. And eventually in 1995 'Scatha' was born.
Since then there has been a few line up changes, we lost Andy when he moved to Bradford in '97, with Johnny (Debris) swiftly replacing him, then Billy left in '98 leaving us with only one guitarist for some time, we didnt play many gigs over the next year or so and new songs were in short supply, but in 2000 Andy, although still living in Bradford returned to his former guitar slot, but at this time both Johnny and I.B. left to concentrate on thier other band (Debris), but Brian (also in Debris) came in on guitar, and Gordon (ex-Bonejack) took over on bass, and a steady line up was eventually re-established.
After touring Europe in 2001, we started writing some new material and early in 2002 we recorded three new tracks, one of which was used for a split 7" with Irelands 'The Dagda', a split release on 'Panoptic Vision, Crime Scene & Anonymous Records'.
At the current time (2003) we are rehearsing whenever possible and writing more new material, which we hope will allow us to release something more substantial in the near future, we will also be gigging together with 'The Dagda' in Scotland this April, and have a few other gigs planned ourselves throughout the summer in the U.K.!!! |

Press Reviews
SCATHA – “Respect, Protect, Reconnect” LP.
Scatha are Scottish crusties hailing from Glasgow,
The more I listen to Scottish Punk bands the more
I notice a (I'm reluctant to say "trend")
tendency towards reclaiming the roots and beleifs
of their pre-roman pagan ancestors. This actually
meshes exceptionally well with Crust's pro-earth
stance. Scatha (Originally pronouced "Sca-huh")
tend to sing about developing a bond with the
earth with brutal urgency. Speedy distorted punk
with some more grindish parts, Respect is a
powerful album with an original message, the only
"typical" (not a bad thing) song on the album is
"Why Fur?" which is one of the best anti-
exploitation songs I've heard in a while. The
packaging was good, if not a little predictable.
Overall a quality release.

SCATHA - "Fuck The System" 7".
Originally released by Anonymous a year or two
ago, this great 7" has been repressed by those
cool cats at Enslaved Records. I bought the
original, but this pressing has been on my
shopping list so it was only a matter of time
before I actually got around to buying it. So the
gods have been good to me and I get it for review.
Isn't life cool? Well I think it is. Anyway,
enough of that. This was recorded before the LP,
reviewed just below and it is a lot more faster
than their first LP and a wee bit faster than the
new one. We have three fast, heavy power assaults
mingled with the odd acoustic dittie. Pit-bull
gruff vocals, monstrous riffs and solid drumming.
Songs dealing with fucking the system, medicine
and Scotland's freedom. The front cover has a
city gent (bowler, brolly and brief case) looking
down on a city. Will he take his freedom or join
the masses of other folks working there? Maybe it
was the former and he joined SCATHA! Ha, look at
the photos on the back, 'Punk and Disorderly' or
'Bollocks To The Gonads' anyone? Don't leave this
on your shopping list, buy it now. (MH)

SCATHA - 'Birth, Life and Death' LP.
The grey and black cover is very welcoming, with
trademark SCATHA celtic logo design. On the
inside I'm truly glad the good things are
confirmed because if you liked their previous
releases (I certainly did) then you'll love this
(I certainly do). There's no let up from the
passion of things they hold dear such as
environmentalism, sexual awareness, history and
self-empowerment that is spat through angry,
gravely guttural vocals - backed up by an
onslaught of ferociously heavy hardcore crust.
Great fast paced tunes, but not so fast that it's
a blur or it would deter you from dancing and
shaking your fist in the air. I recommend it if
you like the harsh sounds of life. Check out the
photo on the back cover, just goes to show how
the band has a sense of humour. (MH)
