Artist description
Thad says we sound like "Sugar meets the Shipping News." I don't know if anybody would agree with that who listens to those bands, but it seems on-target to me. I like to say we play loud and beautiful music. The tempo is slower than other bands I've been involved with, but it's still got this PUNCH that gets me every time. Loud and beautiful. |

Artist History
Parks and Empty Spaces formed in January of 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia. In
trying to find a common ground between guitar pop, post-rock rhythms,
imagistic words and occasional pure noise, they have taken the seemingly
disparate ends of their influences to form an interesting and eclectic
aesthetic. The result is a variety of musical movements which range from
introspective to extroverted with a focus on collective song composition
rather than achieving a preconcieved style.
DAVID DAULT is the guitarist and main vocalist for PaES. He first came to
Atlanta in 1993 as a solo/acoustic performer/songwriter. He has been in bands
and recorded with Bryan (Helium) Poole (ex-ELF POWER), Sonia Tetlow, Candi
Jiosne (ex-Viva la Diva), Patrick Ferguson (ex-Five Eight), Kenny Howes, and
Michael Lorant (Big Fish Ensemble). He also appeared on albums by Alastor and
the Bugaboos. Prior to PaES, Dave was the guitarist, vocalist, and chief
songwriter in FEYERABEND from 1995-1998. He has also had an ongoing
association with the Theodor Adorno Jazz Quartet.
MATT GLAGOLA is the drummer and a vocalist for the group. He has been playing
in bands since the 7th grade. While studying architecture at SCAD, Matt
played in Man from Lebanon where he tortured audiences for years with musical
"studies" and "sketches". Influenced by Polvo, Shellac and Shipping News,
Matt specializes in quietly complex drum parts that make the songs ebb and
flow rather than just keep time. His knack for song arrangement is the secret
weapon of PaES.
THAD THOMPSON plays bass guitar, synth bass pedals, percussion, and is yet
another vocalist. He joined his first band, folk-pop quartet Plausible, at
The University of the South shortly after seeing FEYERABEND play there in
1996. Already a prog-rock and power pop addict, he soon began simultaneous
infatuations with Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Guided by Voices, and
minimalist composer Terry Riley. A firm believer in bass as melody, Thad also
employs electronic gadgetry which he calls "low-rent Frippertronics." He has
appeared on recordings by New York-based singer/songwriter James Thompson (no
relation).
