Artist description
Emilio Nieto is a true street musician. He performs on the street year-round on a full-time schedule, and earns his living entirely from his music. Emilio has played since the early 1970s on corners from New York to Southern California, and from New Orleans to Chicago. He is especially well-known in Chicago's Loop, where his powerful, gravelly, soulful renditions of country, blues, and pop tunes echo in the most-trafficked train stations, subways, tunnels, and sidewalks. His blend of tenderness toward children, bawdy humor, and street-hardened temper make him as fascinating to observe as he is to hear. For thousands of Loop employees, tipping Emilio has become as routine as buying the morning paper. For thousands of tourists, Emilio personifies the City of Big Shoulders. And for many a City Hall politician, Emilio is an astute critic to contend with. At the peak of the global, high-tech age, Emilio is a throwback to old-fashioned American rawness and practicality. In this spirit, this CD was recorded entirely with Emilio's standard lineup: voice and guitar. You'll agree that Emilio gleans more from these two than most bands produce in multimillion-dollar studios.
Emilio thanks every single listener who has waved, smiled, nodded, or given the thumbs-up as he or she passed-by; you give him spirit. Next he thanks every tipster, starting with the penny-tossers and ending with the C-noters; you give him bread and water. He thanks his manager, producer, recording engineer, and musical soulmate, Albert Mora. He thanks his brother Loui, his absolute best friend. He thanks especially his mother Juanita, another of whom there will never ever be...

Artist History
Emilio was born in East Chicago, Indiana in 1951, where he currently resides. For 30-years, Emilio relied on the most-familiar cover tunes to touch passersby in both the heart and wallet. This CD, Emilio's first, represents a milestone, as it introduces four of Emilio's many original compositions. The songs are pure-Emilio. No frills. No effects. No overdubs. No backing band. No violins. Just Emilio and his guitar. Emilio hopes to continue producing and marketing CDs on this web site. So pay this site a visit once in a while. Finally, Emilio would love to hear from you. You can email him through this web site, or contact him at (219) 398-9227. Emilio's door, and his heart, are always open. |
