    Artist History
The summer of 2000 gave birth to a band with a crushing vision of extreme music and a blood thirsty abhorrance for the organized world. Thus becoming Dyngyr (Dine-gear). Defining from ancient Sumerian texts, as evil and God. Dyngyr infused elements of intense speed and majestic melodies of European blackmetal and the devastating grind and riffing of American death metal, creating their own hybrid of American black/death metal. Residing in the pits of Muncie, Indiana, from a sparse metal scene of only a few death bands and a handful of hardcore and prog acts staining the scene, Dyngyr's brand of insanity is welcomed, comprising of four key members; Josh Wright- vocals, Jeff Brown- percussion, Kyle Kreider- guitars, Jeff Wilson- Keys

DYNGYR - Infernal Skies 5 tracks 28 minutes I first heard about the strangely named Dyngyr on MP3.COM, made contact in the usual way, and then soon after received a very professional and good looking package. Turning up in DVD case, sheer black CD, and minimal black and white cover and back page art, and including a business card and short biography, I was completely impressed so far. So does the music live up to that awesome introduction into the world of Dyngyr (pronounced Dine-gear)? Well, Once you get over the very strangeness of them, then yes. A very bizarre mix of sounds here, some awesome vocals from Josh Wright, with a nice shrieky quality to them. The music is a fair hybrid of black metal in the main part, death metal and occasional more melodic sections, with a massive splattering of sweet sounding keyboards coating the sound with a nice warm and beautiful atmosphere, this plays against the cold and trebley sound of the guitars. Drums are a little tinny but are tight enough and well placed in the mix so this is only a minor obstruction into enjoying the sound. Opening track "Vengeance" is a bit of an epic, with ups and downs in the mood, and some very catchy, hypnotic keyboards, and layering of vocals making it an impressive start to this 5 track EP. "Thy legions rise" continues on in a similar vein, but probably a shade darker. During this I notice what is weird about the production. Everything is definitely audible in its own right, which is definitely good, but it's all been kept completely seperate, which is a strange trait, but somehow works on here, it's like its been mixed to sound unmixed! On the strength of this, though, Dyngyr are a very accomplished unit of song writing skills and are packed full of slightly off-centre ideas that a stagnating black/death metal scene needs. "Infernal Skies" is at the centre of this recording, and is a pure masterpiece. A very atmospheric introduction, complete with rainfall, wind gusts and clean electric guitar playing eerie notes, and then after 90 seconds or so, the song kicks its way through the soundscape and becomes the best track of the five. Hyper and fairly thrashy as well, with the dark moods of the vocals and guitars mixing in perfectly with the lush keyboard sounds. Now time to really thrash out, with "End it all"'s intro, Dyngyr prove once more they have a good song writing head on their sextupleted shoulders, some awesome ideas around the minute mark of this, with some excellent keyboard stabs, and quick drops in pace of the whole song. I like this band. A lot. Hard to draw any comparisons to anyone really, and I think that is something that Dyngyr wanted to actually do. They are themselves and are excellent at what they do, now hopefully someone will pick them up and give them an even more powerful production to go along with the wonderous songs.
