so underground that underground music stores rarely carry their extensive catalog of conceptual pearls, buffalo is never going to be a money-making venture. that was obviously never the intent either. from the minimalist rhythmic licking structures of "the 867 letter" to the ethnic falsetto disaster "she shaves her legs," or the overall bizarre nature of the epic "Camo Khuchz and the zebra," one can easily conclude that buffalo are content walking on the edge of what is barely listenable, and not very worried about falling off. just when you thought weird couldn't get much weirder, upon the release and relative success of "stampede," buffalo spends eleven years refining their follow-up and surprises the scene with "kuwrgreh jgg shuuui cchh," an album recorded entirely in a language never before heard, with various patting noises weaving in and out of tracks as if it were the most natural thing in the world. the band supposedly reconvened recently in colorado, usa, doing an impromptu show in front of two lucky female fans. digital audio files were traded on the internet soon after, as it turns out the concert was streamed to a server in new york (via iceland?) which in turn delivered the content to a few hundred people in mexico who were attempting to access an american sports feed. buffalo is indeed back, and they're rumored to be working on a new album. judging from the recent internet happenings, it should be a fair assumption to make that more digital audio will pop up - perhaps even an all-digital release will be preferred over actually releasing a CD? (since stores dont't carry their music, buffalo's distribution usually consists of placing a few albums here and there; in free newspaper boxes, restaurant rest-rooms, random cubicles, etc). time will tell.
