Plowd - Self Titled EP
Sergio T. Ruiz
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Plowd comes to us from Bucyrus, Ohio. They describe themselves as a groove-oriented metal band, but that doesn’t seem to get to the heart of the matter. Plowd plays heavy ass, crazy stuff. They do this very well.
What sets them apart from some of the other bands of this genre is the successful integration of electronics into their music. Rather than rely on the same tired loops and beats, they use more analog and organic features of synthesis. This leaves them open to use some crazy sounds. Unlike a lot of bands who dabble in electronics, they pull this off with hints of deep understanding.
Rather than boring us silly with songs about how great they are, they put songs together about the things they know. About life, about disasters on the relationship front, about friendship gone awry, and horrific things like that.
They have played several local gigs and are currently working to gain a bigger following. Some of their more memorable gigs include getting themselves banned from the Crawford Country fair for excessive profanity.
Because this stuff is a little on the edgy side, you won’t hear it on your local college radio station, but you will hear it on Buzz Radio.
You can find their six song EP at all their local shows.
This is not music for the light hearted. This is some heavy shit.
If your tastes run into the heavy, solid, and edgy, make sure you check them out. |
