Press Reviews
Tight programming and
uplifting lyrics. - Mark Reynolds "Red Flag"..........cutting edge synth pop, May 8, 2003
Reviewer: arioch969 from Southern Ca
Eloquent has produced a cd with an astonishing variety of music that will enthrall the lover of this genre of music. This cd has not left my player for over a month. I very much look forward to future efforts from this great new artist..........
"Future Pop" - eloquent -----
eloquent is the alter ego of Steven Cochran, a talented young man from California who has been dabbling with synthpop for years. This is his first official album, and it features an ultra slick production, a wide array of contributors and classy album design. Within the grooves of this disc we are treated to a never ending barrage of buzzing synth sounds and a welcome sincerity that I wish more synthpop artists would adopt. It can't be denied that this is VERY "Euro" and spacey.
An early Depeche Mode influence is evident (it can be heard in "Moonlight Over London" and is also apparent with the cover of "Tora! Tora! Tora!"). The production levels are top notch and we are also treated to great vocal assistance from Brian Hazard (Color Theory). The album is varied, unpredictable and very professional, and sounds exactly like something you'd hear in a Swedish night club. "Paris In Our Hearts" is so warm and upbeat! Good Stuff! ------- Gary Flanagan/Nightwaves Magazine - October 2003

Additional Info
WHAT IS SYNTHPOP? Put simply enough: Pop music played on synthesizers. As a general rule, the genre emphasizes strong vocal melody, catchy lyrics and melody, and is predominantly electronic. It doesn't have to be 100% electronic, but the electronics should be prominent. Put simply, the emphasis is on melody and vocals, more so than the other electronic genres. In most dance-oriented electronica, the emphasis is less on melody and lead vocals (apart from the occasional vox sample or repeated riff) and more on the electronics, the instrumentation. In Synthpop, however, while the electronic instrumentation is present, the music relies entirely on melody and catchy lead vocals, much like conventional pop music. WWW.SYNTHPOP.FM / Bobby Clark |
