    Artist History
Alma Mater was founded in 1994 by Sergio Calzoni, with the intention to develop and research a personal musical style characterized by the use of electronic equipment. Sergio and Cristian are the mouthpieces of this musical project, and in a second moment Valerio become part of the band. The first demo-tape realized by Alma Mater (six tracks nearly exclusively instrumental) already trace the outline of the creative approach taken by the band, extended to a musical research not always of simple listen. In 1996 only Sergio and Valerio remain to represent the Alma Mater project. In the same year the second demo-tape ("Satìra") was realized, and it denoted more importance to Valerio's italian lyrics. "Icaro" and "Consummatum Est" (songs included in the tape), take part in two CD compilations: respectively "INTIMATIONS OF IMMORTALITY 3" (Energeia), and "BLUE VELVET" (I.A.R. & Neogothic). With the third demo-tape ("L'essenza") dated 1997, the band has the opportunity to realize their first CD ("Il parco degli arcobaleni"), produced and distributed by TOAST RECORDS, an Italian independent label. During 1998 Alma Mater become a "complete-band" with the entry of Stefano (electric & acoustic guitar), Michele (electric bass), Elisabetta (voice) and Claudio (live drums). With this line-up the band compose and record some new songs ("Lorelei", "Fiori di litio"), in which all the musicians are directly involved to the composition process of the pieces.

    Press Reviews
"Interesting the lyrics and sophisticated the sounds, four tracks are few but already enough to attract the attention on the project..." (review to "Satìra" appeared on the number 196 of ROCKERILLA). /// "Convincing Valerio's singing that uses fair whisper timbre; also good Sergio for the intelligent use of the keyboards, protagonists of interesting opening and pulling in the right way..." (fanzine MARBLE MOON number 5/6). /// "Very good demo-tapes these of Alma Mater. The songs contained in the cassettes show us the compositive capacity at the keyboards of Sergio supported by Valerio's voice. The songs take inspiration from the post punk-wave with classical and ethnic tinges..." (fanzine NEO GOTHIC number 8).
