Artist History
Formed by Jonathan Anthony Field and The Rev. Brendan Powell Smith in 1985, GOF UGNÜT's rise to international superstardom was sudden when their debut album became a number one hit in several countries across Europe and Asia almost immediately after its release. Legendary for their wild stage antics, the band developed a rabid following wherever it played. Although their first two albums were dismissed by some as hollow
"cheez-pop", the band's musical talents were evident early-on, and with their third album, FREE JESUS MONOPOLY came almost universal praise that continued throughout the rest of their career.
The band fell apart after Jonathan Anthony Field's tragic death in 1993. They had just released their most ambitious album to date, Feeling Smarmy, and had finally made a deal with their recording label to release their albums in America.
This deal fell through, however, when their label, BINADOPTA Recordings went out of business in 1997. Consequently, most people in the US have yet to hear the band the rest of the world has adored for almost fifteen years. |
