Artist History
Eenie Meenie began as a brainstorm in late ‘92 when singer/songwriter Denise Siegel frustrated with post-art school depression reclaimed her first love...music. “I had been in and tried to form various bands but I never felt completely satisfied. All the time I spent alone in my studio painting and writing led me to an epiphany. Suddenly everything came together. I felt like a lightning rod.” Soon after songs started pouring forth with amazing clarity. She wrote dozens upon dozens of songs. “Not all of them were great...but some of them truly amazed me.”
For a couple of years Eenie Meenie was worked through on 4-track. Finding the right band was not easy, Eenie Meenie went through several incarnations. It was not until early 94 that the first line up played Spaceland. Just as the band was getting started long time friend Kendra Sparks took over on bass. Sparks was still fresh on bass, she had started her musical career as a flutist. Together the two struggled to find the right drummer while Joey Peters of Grant Lee Buffalo, Jon Brion producer/ songwriter/musical genius, and Brad Lanner of Medicine all sat in at different times. After a rehearsal at “Yo!” studios in North Hollywood Sparks and Siegel met David Lovering. Shortly there after Lovering started filling in, officially joining the band in the spring of ‘96. The self titled debut EP came out simultaneously on Krown Pocket. Brad Laner and Grant Lee Phillips of Grant Lee Buffalo each produced 3 songs. Critical acclaim and College radio play followed.
Eenie Meenie solidified with the addition of Lovering; two years of playing together made the group tight, intense and highly charged. The three have become a close knit circle of friends whose chemistry translates to the stage. 1997 was a year to woodshed, reevaluate, record and lay low.
They are currently working on a full length record which will spin pop music into a new direction, This band has hooks you don’t expect, lyrics that make you think, charm, diversity and uniqueness. In the haze of sound alike music Eenie Meenie bring a much needed paradigm shift. Look for Eenie Meenie to be an important force for the new Millennium. |
