Artist History
Bob Orona (ASCAP) Born August 26, 1953 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, I found myself in Los Angeles by the age of seven, where at age twelve I began singing with some of the local players. I bought my first guitar at the age of thirteen, and by fourteen I was fronting a ten-piece band; I've never looked back. Having been a player and songwriter for a number of years, and brought up in North East Los Angeles, I surely got my dose of Willie Bobo, Cal Tjader, Mongo Sanatamaria, etc. However, I've been influenced by many other artists such as Blood Sweat and Tears, Three Dog Night, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, etc., and all the talented obscure players I've had the pleasure to jam with or heard along the way. Back in the early 70's I was lead vocalist in a group known as Rainbow Bridge. I opened for the Young Hearts, El Chicano, Tierra, and The Midnighters. Years later I moved to Northern California and made my home amongst the Redwoods for approximately six years. During that time I became part of a group known as the Equinox Jazz Ensemble, where I played flute and was lead vocalist. We opened for, and jammed with Cal Tjader, Aierto / Alex Acuna, Ritchie Cole & Alto Madness with Eddy Jefferson, John Handy, and Vi Redd during numerous jazz festivals. In 1989 one of my songs “ No Canta (Reprise) “ was a finalist in the Fiesta L.A. Song Festival in the Latin Jazz Category. From 1991 to 1992 I did two contracts on a cruise ship as Head Sound. Besides working with Buddy Morrow and the Dorsey Orchestra, the Polish House Players smoked! There were lots of late night jams in the lounge when Tom ”TK” Kesperick, an old Dorsey player on drums, would play with Carol Niece on keys , a Chopin Award winner, with me scatting out some jazz line, or playing flute, and Andre De Long on bass. Or sometimes TK would be on drums, and Tom Sapianza on keys (another long time Dorsey member), with one of the younger new cats Eric DeFade on sax, and me and Walt Andrus dueting out some old standard. Karaoke nights on board for a while, was never the same, always interesting, and talent abounded. These are the kind of experiences that have brought me here. As a solo artist I have played all over the world, and have sat in with many bands and lounge acts from St Petersburg, Russia to San Pedro, Ca. As an MP3 artist I have had numerous songs in the Top 10 in both Jazz Vocals, and Latin Jazz genres. “Le In Seine” went to # 1 after being a featured song. “Happiness “ became a featured song the day it was posted ,and soon moved up the charts. I am also consistently one of the top five downloaded mp3.com Las Vegas Artists. I currently have 5 CD's available at MP3.com; “Seems That If!“ “Four Once More”, “High Dollar Hobo“,Hot Shots Live, and Sampler, I am also working on my sixth CD. |

Press Reviews
Listen.com : "Saturday in Central Park, 1974. Orona's vocals are backed up by Latin, jazz, and soul inflected pop. Good tunes for good times -- like Stevie Wonder fronting Chicago. Dean Krippaehne Wrote "Bob, I just went to your site and started checking out your tunes for the first time. WAY COOL. You are doing some heavy jazz there - makes me feel like I'm just singing some "pop" songs - heh. Really good stuff - not only will I be linking to you but I'll be listening to your stuff daily to see if I can steal a few of your licks for my new jazz CD." |
