Artist History
Alternative rockers, A Pocket-Sized Room, are geared toward intimate song writing and developing a bond with their audience. From their first show in early 1999, the band had caught the attention of the local music scene in the Antelope Valley. They expanded their audience by winning a battle of the bands contest shortly after. With the cash grand prize they won from the contest, they built their own recording studio to track the first album. They met 2001 with their first full-length studio release, Have Your Cake (And Eat It Too!) Featuring fan favorites such as “More Like You,” “Turn Away,” and “OZ.” They strive to completely entertain their fans with both visual and audio performances onstage. The release party for the album, as well as a small Southern California “tour” in support of the release, will begin promptly in May. A Pocket-Sized Room, as a band, has been playing together since February 1999. Taking its name from the size of their rehearsal space and the musical term, “playing in the pocket,” the group began when the already assembled unit of Paul, Ray, and Jason went in search of a singer. Ray received a flyer promoting the performance of acoustic (al) artist, “Troll Girl”. “Troll Girl,” as Crystal was known then, had already been hitting Hollywood clubs and coffee houses with her guitar, mic, and tons of fascination. Ray and Jason headed down to view her act and realized that this was the front they were searching for to complete the package. With persistence they grabbed hold and A Pocket-Sized Room began. In early 2000, the idea to add another member to the closely-knit family of four was decided upon when a more energetic and full curve was desired. Jud McDaniel previously played in a band that featured Ray on lead vocals. The four knew of his (obvious) talent that would bring completeness to the group. The new A Pocket-Sized Room debuted on February 13th, 2000.As individuals, the band members have close to five years musical experience. Four of the members (Ray, Jud, Crystal, and Jason) have attended the local Junior college enrolling in several music classes and have done very well. Paul has been playing his instrument the longest and has been asked to be a local bass instructor replacing his instructor. The results are in and it is Have Your Cake (And Eat It Too!) The album that possesses every emotion you need to make it through your day. |
