Artist History GEOGEL formed in the spring of 1997 by vocalist, Dallas Starr, and Bassist, Emil. GEOGEL has numerous shows under its belt, and boasts a 35-song orignial hit set list. GEOGEL co-won the 1998 CJAY 92 Rock Talent Search in Calgary, hooking them up with legendary Engineer and owner of Night Deposit Studios, Endre Lukacsy(Motley Crue, Metallica, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi). Together with Calgary producer, Krisjan Leslie (Age of Electric, Limblifter, Zuckerbaby), GEOGEL recorded, mixed produced 5 quality tunes, which represent the first batch of GEOGEL songs recorded. GEOGEL has seen a fair bit of TV exposure, with apperances on TV Morning Show, The Big Breakfast, and their "rooftop show" drew attention from local media and Universal Records. Press Reviews band geogel genre alternative location calgary, alberta review date apr 24, 1999 reviewer sal mp3 review songs reviewed: say forever, running scared, everyone and everything it might just be me, but i hear shades of the tragically hip in this music, vocally more than stylistically. that gordon downie deep, slightly wavering vocal style and this can't always be helped, as any indie pop rock band from canada knows, the hip are part of our culture, inescapable. and this is not to say that geogel are hip like in their music, they're not. although they share a similar style of alternative indie rock, geogel has a distinct sound of their own. heavy for pop, running scared is a standout tune for me. catchy in that alternative college radio way, this is no doubt crowd pleaser music and that's where i'm sure geogel does well, with the audience. they have a commercial appeal much like i mother earth, third eye blind, matchbox 20, our lady peace et al. and that's the kind of modern rock music that goes over best here in canada, and in the us too. they're not especially resourceful or overly original in style but they're good and they know how to write a catchy pop rock tune. that's what it takes.
