"chiaroscuro" - various artists
This super-limited (100) debut release from crytpic new labal C.O. surveys a range of experimental post-techno forms, with contributions from the 833-45, diablatomica, Tomas Jirku, The Obelisk Device and Pegasus. Sounds run the gamut from 833-45's oppresive "Phase Quadrature," grinding distorted breaks under a welling could of drones, to Jirku's bounct dub-techno lite. IDM-heads will doubtless be moved by Diablatomica's sweeping (if a tad grandiose) strongs and stutter-breaks, and the very Jenkinsonesque stylings of The Obelisk Device. My money's on the off-putting ambiance of Diablatomica's stifling "Emanate," which hangs like a noxious fog over Eno International.

"train wreck at 6 frames per minute":
This is art house music, as it were. It's not something you sit and listen to unless out of interest. What it does do is evoke depth and concentration. This track emits great intelligence and speaks well of the amount of time which must have been put into it In effect? Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Cheers, Mike Bell (Enigmation)
"intricate and lovely":
Sounds like Ennio Morricone Jr if he existed, something about the plucked string thing. The distorted bass just drones on, the percussion is plodding and labored and there's not a whole lot going on superficially...but damn I loved this. You created an atmosphere, a vibe, a mood.
