Artist description
With their own unique blend of catchy songs, fiery
improvisation, and a high energy live show, Day by the
River has established themselves, over the last five
years, as one of this countrys finest unsigned bands.
Well-crafted songs, superior musicianship, and soulful
honesty form the foundation of this quintet from Athens,
Ga. The strength and uniqueness of Day by the Rivers
sound comes from the incorporation of many kinds of
music including, but not limited to Funk, Jazz, Classic
Rock, Country, Latin, and Brazilian music. In a world
where many bands claim to be eclectic by misusing or
overusing stock licks and progressions from exotic music,
Day by the River personifies eclecticism by absorbing
their influences and combining them to create a new,
personal sound of their own. |

Artist History
What started as a hobby for singer Ted Lahey and bassist
Patrick McDonnell in 1989 transformed into a full-blown
musical phenomenon when the two joined forces with old
schoolmates Walt Austin on keyboards and Dave
Brockway on drums in 1992 at the University of Miami.
The band was unstoppable, playing around Miami
constantly and eventually selling out 500 seat venues
such as the Stephen Talkhouse on South Miami Beach.
The album from this period, "Shimmy" (1993) has sold in
the thousands and stands as a good representation of
the bands sound and style at that time. Highlights from
this era include a performance at the House of Blues in
L.A. after placing in the top five (out of 3000 bands) in the
Yamaha Music Showcase and performing at Austin, TXs
South by Southwest. In addition, DBR were featured with
national acts such as The Aquarium Rescue Unit, Merl
Saunders, Government Mule, Zen Tricksters, and good
friends The String Cheese Incident. |
