Artist History This month John Lee just orchestrated the Christmas Show for the Santa Cruz Symphony, is working on horn arrangements for the next Tower of Power CD, and was nominated for a Grammy for producing "Splash Zone" in the category for best Children's recording. Last week performed a show in northern California with Huey Lews and Elvin Bishop. With musical roots in Memphis, Mississippi and Louisiana, John Lee to be inspired by the legends of New Orleans Jazz, Rhythm & Blues. He was singing and opening for name acts since age 12, and went on to be a member of the Grammy Winning North Texas State University Big Band in Denton Texas where he received his B.A. in music Composition. He joined the great Dallas R&B group, Uncle Rainbow, formed a partnership with Michael Hossack of the Doobie Brothers, and relocated to Northern California. A s the songwriter, singer of Uncle Rainbow, John Lee landed contract with Rod Stewart's Riva Records. Narada Michael Walden, producer of Whitney Houston took him under his wing with a production contract. He has written for, and recorded, toured, and played with some world-class artists. Examples include: The Temptations, Long John Baldry, John Lee Hooker, Tower of Power, Starship, Percy Sledge, Paul Williams, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and many, many others. He’s now coast to coast in North America, performing and singing on the Walmart TV network, on video nationwide. He's written National television commercials for companies like Walmart, Nissan, and the Oakland A's. He's also composed motion picture scores, and television documentaries for PBS. He was nominated for an Emmy in 1996 for his vocal in the best song from a daytime show, "Bold & Beautiful". John Lee has completed 2 recent sold out tours of Europe of major venues and festivals. His first CD, World Blue- on Hypertension/ BMG, received rave reviews throughout Europe and the U.S. "The Mozart Variations", a recently released Windham Hill compilation, features John Lee’s beautiful interpretation of a Mozart Mass, which is part of a new JLS release , on Raw Records which recieved much airplay Nationwide. When he is not on the road performing, he can be found playing some sanctified Gospel music on the Hammond Organ at Beebe Memorial CME Church in Oakland California on Sunday Mornings. Throughout Europe, John has conducted Gospel Workshops, spreading God's love through his music, recently with an 80 voice Austrian Choir."
