Artist description Doug Smith was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has been active in the music community for 25 years as performer, composer, arranger and teacher. His studies have ranged from composition to jazz to computer applications in music. Doug holds both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in music composition from the University of British Columbia, as well as diplomas in jazz and classical music from Capilano College. His works have been played throughout Canada and are in the repertoire of several Vancouver ensembles. Doug is a faculty member of the Douglas College Music Department where he has taught since 1994 and the Vancouver Academy of Music where he began teaching in 1995. He teaches composition, theory and orchestration.
