Artist History
Daniel Eichenbaum earned his Masters degree in music composition at the University of Michigan where he has studied privately with James Aikman (http://www.music.umich.edu/faculty/aikman.james.html) and Evan Chambers (http://www.evanchambers.net). The University granted him a fellowship for his studies while in attendance. Before attending the University of Michigan, he graduated at the top of his music school with a Bachelor of Music degree from Penn State University. At Penn State, he studied composition and orchestration with Paul Barsom (http://www.music.psu.edu/Faculty%20Pages/barsom/my%20pages/Paul_Barsom_Homepage.htmland) and Bruce Trinkley (http://www.music.psu.edu/Faculty%20Pages/trinkley.html). Penn State’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Michigan’s Concert Band have performed his music. The University of Warwick’s wind ensemble (in Coventry, England) (http://www.warwick.ac.uk/MusicCentre/swe.html) recently toured Europe, playing his music in Cologne and Brussels. Mr. Eichenbaum was a finalist in Schirmer’s New Voices contest for band literature with his wind ensemble piece, 5th Avenue Rhapsody, which is published through Southern Music (http://www.southernmusic.com). The Music Box, a Columbine memorial piece, was premiered in June of 2000 by the Downtown Chamber Players in New York City. He has taught composition for the past year at the Ann Arbor School of the Performing Arts. Recently, …and the band played on… was published by Southern Music. |

Press Reviews
Congratulations on your "high energy" work for wind ensemble. Given the work's visceral and engaging rhythmic qualities as well as clear musical design, the work, I suspect, should find an enthusiastic reception from many wind ensemble directors. [in a letter regarding 5th Avenue Rhapsody]
---Joseph Schwantner, Pulitzer Prize winning composer
[5th Rhapsody] is full of wonderful color and energy, and is brimming with ideas and interesting details. Congratulations!
---Dana Wilson, composer
[5th Rhapsody] a most convincing and exciting success.
---Eleanor Duncan Armstrong
Reminiscent of a young George Gershwin

A very primordial dawn! And, for me, a visual piece~~some music, like Mozart , is an aural experience...it doesn't evoke images or stories to me.... other music has the effect of evoking images or a story...your piece was like that. I haven't really analyzed what the difference is for me...it just is there.
"[An audience member's reaction to the premier of Dawn]
[We thought 5th Avenue Rhapsody] showed tremendous talent and skill (although we couldn't help but think it reminiscent of our own Fifth Avenue in New York). We really wanted to hear more of your music as you continue to develop because you seem to have genuine talent and are very young.
---William J. Holab, Director of Publications for G. Schirmer Music Publishers
Congratulations on a strong and independent work (Music Box) which captured the spirirt of that gruesoms event and which was at the same time so challenging, musically.
