Artist History
Nearly everyone who's ever known me will admit up
that I always have something to say, and often don't
know when to stop talking. Well they can rest assured
that with songwriting as a new outlet in the past year
or so, some of that bitterness has been channelled into
collaborations with members of Scottish band Unquiet.
The frilly remainders can be heard here.
Having fought so hard to leave a small-town dedication
to country music behind me, I found that basic
melodies (3 chords!), lyrical clichés, and steady
acoustic strumming (even on a sparkly electric guitar)
are the foundations upon which I continue to tell
musical stories. So here's me not fighting it.
Many of these songs have materialized as a result of
poems written several years ago in an effort to figure
out my f***ed up life at the time. Those pages of
bitter introspective material became some raucous,
spewed-out songs with alt-rock band Unquiet (mentioned
above). Everything we did in this past year just
gelled. It was fate meeting John, Norma, and Eileen,
and without the union there'd be no album to push - yes
they're for sale, go and hear us via the links
section. Anyway, in the down time to rehearsing,
writing, gigging and recording with the band, a lot of
new material plowed its way to the forefront. In
several sessions in John's (Phillips, guitarist for
Unquiet) comfy music/recording room, we managed to
turn these ideas into complete songs that we are ready
to release onto the general public. With my vocal
focus and John's concentration on guitar melodies and
riffs, some of the results truly were effortless. On
more than one occasion we'd come together with
incomplete ideas that somehow fit perfectly together.
And with the miracle of technology we hope to continue
writing together from opposite ends of the world. At
least until the Unquiet album ('After the Flood')
makes us famous and gives us copious amounts of flight
money and expensive recording equipment. Until then,
enjoy us in the raw!!!
