Artist History
Plissken was started as a solo project in the summer 2000, by founder member Martin Hyde, under the project name Broken Robot. Tracks such as Bad Man In My Head, Your Favorite Failure, and Confidence USA were all originally written and recorded in the later part of 2000. Early 2001, Martin hooked up with old friend Seb Sullivan, who had just finished his degree in Photography in London. Apart from Seb being good guitarist and friend, Martin felt to do the guitar tracks justice in a live situation, 2 guitars were essential, as all the songs used multiple guitars. He also craved the idea of a full band again. From there on, the original sound of Broken Robot was used as a basic template to expand upon. It was decided after a couple of months of recording and practicing to recruit a bass player and drummer (up to that point, all bass and drum work on recordings had been done by Martin). After short amount of time Lee Cleef and Sam Warner were recruited to complete the lineup. At that point the band name was changed to Plissken (named after the Snake Plissken from Escape from New York, one of the bands fav films). All tracks and lyrics are written by Martin, with the exception of the excellent Silence Gets Longer which was co written with Seb. Martin and Seb plan to repeat this song writing formula again. All four members add something unique to Plissken, each with their strong playing, unique style and individual influences. |
