Artist description
The Boats' music is all original and features drum beats that drive like live drum 'n bass, countered by smooth jazzy trumpet, funky guitar riffs, fluid bass lines, and distant vocals. Blending a dynamic range of styles is the band's signature. In an instant the music can swing from a sly guitar funk, tumble into a Getz-like jazz jam, rise to a punk chorus, climax at a crashing metal crescendo, and descend back down to easy alt-pop college rock. The band has a strong following and plays unforgettable live concerts about once a month in the Tampa Bay area, as well as surrounding cities.

Artist History
The Boats first introduced their blend of jazz-influenced alternative rock over 10 years ago when lead singer/bassist Todd McBride, drummer Sam Nagatani, and guitarist George Eckerle began playing together in high school. Even when band members went off to different colleges, they continued to play together on the weekends. The band reconvened after college and began formally going by the name The Boats and playing live shows. Shortly thereafter, classically trained trumpet player Jeremiah Leonard joined the band. Five years later, the band now has three albums under its belt and is set to release a fourth in November 2001. Their 1998 release, Full Ordah, was chosen as Best Local Release by The Weekly Planet News Magazine. Depending upon the sound they are trying to achieve, some albums have lyrics and some don't, but they always have the ethereal, driven, and dynamic sound that embodies The Boats. |
