Artist History
The Returnables were mainstays on the Boston club circuit from 1991-1993, opening for local luminaries such as Cliffs of Dooneen, The Swirlies, Morphine and O Positive, to name just a few. Founding members George Franks and Ray Boyce had previously played together in a band called "The Field of Carrots", and they eventually hooked up with drummer (and Cleveland native) Vinnie DePolo (x-The Flaming Dukes, x-Pictures) and vocalist/bassist Lori Martin, who had previously released an album under the name Lori Lane. Highlights of the Returnable's brief yet memorable career were the 1992 release of their CD entitled "Red" (which reached #1 on WFNX's "Boston Rocks" chart) and their selection as a semi-finalist in the 1992 Tanqueray Rocks Annual Talent Contest. Founding member George Franks left the band in late 1992 (moving to Santa Barbara CA and forming the band "Dr. Propane"), and was replaced by guitarist Fred Pickard (x-Field of Carrots). The group disbanded a year later due to "artistic differences". Ray, Vinnie and Fred soon formed the band "M.O.D.E.", while Lori Martin briefly joined Helium before forming a new project, "Swish", with x-Dinosaur Jr. drummer Murph. |
