Old Retired Sideman,Picked for 50 yrs.with the West coast Struggling Country Musicians.Started before we named it Country.picking in the Honky Tonks was easier than picking cotton and fruit with the migrant farm workers.who moved west in those fays, looking for work.
We were all called Okies,no matter which Mid West State we came from,We took our fiddles & guitars and played The old Country tunes we had lesrned pickin at barn dances,& country socials,We did get to listen to the Grand ole Opry, If we could find someone with a radio. |

Born in Arkansas,1926,Moved to Calif,1943,First regular paying GiG was with Cal Smith (The country Bumpkin)Lee Ross,who wrote, My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You,while we were pickin the Honku Tonks In San Jose,Calif.
Geo.Jones,Stationed in Marine Corps.near by,was a regular guest vocalist on his week end passes.I played Fiddle and Lap Steel Guitar,behind several of the gang who went on to #1 on the charts,wont list their names here,Might embarras them.
Anyhow I backed up some of the best, and many others who never had a chance to be heard outside the Honky Tonks.Never met a musician I did,nt respect, and like,Just reminiscing now with this old recording,hopeing youll enjoy hearing it.
