    Artist History
Empty Canvas was founded in 1996 by guitarist Adam Byerly. By Spring of '97 they were in the studio to record their first album. The band continued to play the Peoria area in support of the album. However, a move forced the band to recruit a new vocalist and less than six months after the album hit local shelves, it was re-released to reflect the talents of the new line-up. Empty Canvas continued to gain a following as well as secure a production deal with an independent label to put out another album. In late Spring of '98, "Don't You Know" was released in grand fashion as the band took over Peoria's Metro Centre. Despite the success of the album, band members' changing lives resulted in departure from the band. Byerly took time off to pursue other musical interests, but by a year and a half later he was writing a third Empty Canvas album. Byerly went into the studio alone, but eventually brought on vocalist and co-writer Alex Keil so that he could focus more on the instrumentation and production of the album. With the album fresh out of the mastering process, Byerly and Keil are currently auditioning drummers and bassists for permanent spots in the Empty Canvas line-up and for a tour in support of the new album.
    Group Members
Adam Byerly -- Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Cameo Vocals Adam Byerly began his career in the Peoria hard rock scene in the mid-90's as guitarist and songwriter for Empty Canvas. During the recording of the band's first album, Byerly discovered that he had a talent as a producer as well and went on to produce Empty Canvas' second album as well as two other albums for local bands. In the fall of '98 Byerly took a break to study music at Bradley University where he pursued a diverse collection of musical disciplines. While there, he found himself playing drums for the band King Mojo. Byerly was with the band through the recording of their first album and through several competition wins, and is now with them as producer for their second album. In the last year, Byerly's desire to be on the front of the stage has led him into both singing and playing bass for the local hard rock band Green, but ultimately has led him back to his roots as guitarist for Empty Canvas. Alex Keil -- Vocals and Backup Vocals. Alex Keil has had music in his life since he was a young boy. His musical training began when he started singing in the church choir and various civic youth choirs in the Peoria area. His interest in music continued into junior high and high school where he studied piano and guitar and was a member of various choral groups, including the 1999 Illinois Music Educators' Association All-State Honor Choir. During his junior and senior years he was the vocalist for Fluxx, a band hailing from East Peoria which he recorded one album with. He is currently a student at Bradley University in Peoria where he continues to study voice. It was through Bradley that Keil met Byerly, which ultimately led to his position as the vocalist for Empty Canvas.
