Artist History
Bruno hails from Sweden where he grew up with the folk music of Scandinavia as well as contemporary Afro-American musical styles. He started performing very young and at age 20 he joined Swedish trombone virtuoso Eje Thelin’s group. During his four year stint with this band he played all the major festivals in Europe as well as the Monterey Jazz Festival in the U.S. He also appeared on numerous recordings, radio and TV broadcasts and performed with well renowned jazz artists such as Bobo Stenson, Nils Landgren, Wolfgang Dauner, Zpigniew Seifert, Eje Thelin and Monica Zetterlund. The album “Eje Thelin Group” won the Golden Record Award.
In 1981 he came to study at the New England Conservatory on a scholarship and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies with Distinction in Performance. Rberg has been an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music since 1986, and also gives clinics while touring in Europe and Latin America.
Being a sought after bassist on both continents he has performed and/or recorded with numerous internationally known jazz artists such as: Sam Rivers, Jerry Bergonzi, Billy Hart, Bob Moses, Mick Goodrick, Dick Oats, Bruce Barth and Bob Mintzer to name a few. After leading his own constellations for several years Rberg released his CD “Pentimento” in 1992, “Orbis” in 1998 and "Presence" in 2000. All have received extensive air play and rave reviews in the U.S. as well as in Scandinavia. He toured with Mika Pohjola Delta Trio in Japan as well as in Scandinavia performing at Allandia Jazz Festival, Pori Jazz Festival, Nord Kalott Jazz & Blues Festival, Lysekil Jazz Festival, Pite Music Festival. He also took his trio "Presence" on a two week tour of Norway and Sweden.
