Artist description
Composer F. Hed, no stranger to the Chicago music scene, created National Wrecking Company in 1998 with a different take on electronic music. Tired of useless categorizations and debates — hard & fast vs. ambient? digital vs. analog? grandiose
vs. indie? — NWC throws the rules aside with original works assembled using whatever means necessary. Trip-hop, big band, ambient, industrial, experimental, old school, new school, dub, rock … all styles are available for manipulation.
NWC’s arrangements weave together a dreamscape of found sounds, synths and beautiful melodies over live percussion and sequenced back beats. While the individual songs may emulate many styles the experience as a whole is an accessibly joyous, perplexing, and unmistakably National Wrecking Company.
Live, F. Hed is assisted by Snayl in tending the machines and tantalizing the crowd. The revolving door of NWC live drummers has included Doug Corella (The Verve Pipe), Chicago mainstay Kevin Hoetger (Big Angry Fish, et al.), and Gregory Curvey (Luck Of Eden Hall, Par Crone). Each percussionist adds his or her own flavor to the new white noise machine.
NWC has played at such institutions as the Burns Room at St. Andrews Music Hall (Detroit), the Elbo Room (Chicago) and as part of the 2000 [Devil’s Night Showcase] at the Empty Bottle (Chicago), and have played with such heavy hitters as TRS-80, The Cells, Bombardier, Johnny Polonsky, and Nineteen Point Five Collective.
