Artist History
Getting ready to hit the music industry with an innovative sound and style. Born in the Pecan Garden project in East, LA and raised in South Central, Los Angeles, John Jake is stepping forward in the footsteps of his predecessor Ice-T. From the same neiborhood and affilates(pimps, players, hustler, gangster, dealers, and intellectuals), John is now stepping out to carry the torch in " Only The Strong Will Suvive." With a chain reaction flow and a mystic style, John is bound to make you drop to your knees to say "Baby Please, Baby Please."
Rhyming, writing, producing, and Djing since the early 80's and mastering his craft in the 90's, John smooth and charismatic flair is sure to please the listening and viewing audience of the 21st century.
John Jake dropped his first single in Atlanta, GA in 1993. The single "Overdue" was a song about the 1992 Los Angeles riots. An independent production called Hats production released it. When Hats production closed it's door in 1994, John moved to Washington D.C. While living in DC, John decided to start his own production company and named it Saboo (say-boo) Production. After spending one year in DC, John moved back to Los Angeles to pursue a record deal. After many unsuccessful attempts in securing a record deal, John again decided to strike it out on his own and in 1997 he founded Sun-Moon Entertainment.
Spending every penny he had, John successfully completed his first album in the fall of 1999. The album "Street Soldier" contained 16 tracks. All of the tracks were written and produced by John Jake. It was released in February of 2000 and has been gaining momentum every since. Sun-Moon Entertainment has pushed over 10,000 copies of Street Soldier in the streets (i.e. shows, parties, concerts, ect). They have also circulated over 350,000+ flyers, and currently pursuing d.j's in the Los Angeles with vinyl to play in the clubs. John Jake will soon become a household name.
Currently, John Jake is working on his band called "Hit & Run" and his second album. Also, he is producing tracks for his click, which is called "The Professional", and performing at several venues across
Caliifornia; building his fan base and creating a buzz that will soon be heard worldwide.

Press Reviews
Los Angeles Scoop - November 9, 2000 Written by: Buddy Sampson
MUSIC IN THE HOOD! A Night of Serious Hip Hop. "This dope concert had the likes of five (featuring members of A Tribe Called Quest) Phife Dog, John Jake, Project T, Project Heat, and Ghost Team.
"Next on the show was John Jake, a very positive yet political brother that had a lot to say in his music. Jake started with a super slam jam "Street Soldier," a funky song with an electric beat to it. Jake's message in his music seemed to be a positve one, as he spoke volumes about how the police treat brothers on the street and what messages you should give to your kids. One of his grooves had, yes, the "Brickhouse" groove to it, so I was happy and grovin' again. He followed with "Time Keep On Slippin" a real slick mid-tempo groove that had the club rockin. That dude could flow, I mean!" |
