Artist History
Disdain was formed in late 1998 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The founding members were drummer Christian Börjesson and guitarist Johnny Johansson. Soon after, Niklas Örnfelt and Elias Holmlid joined the band, respectively, on bass guitar and keyboards. As for the vocals, Dennis Johansson, Johnny Johansson’s brother, was chosen for the task. With a full line-up, Disdain was now ready to focus on getting to play well together and eventually record their first demo.
The first demo was called “Fight For Your Lifeâ€, a 3-track demo CD recorded at the Nemesis Studio in year 2000. No deal was signed, but the year 2000 still proved to be an excellent year for Disdain. The band played a lot of gigs in smaller clubs in the Gothenburg area. Some of the songs even got to be played on a local radio station and one of Disdain's songs was the most requested of all songs re-corded by bands without a record deal. The band also entered a contest called “Göteborgstalangen†and got the opportunity to play in front of a wonderful crowd. Unfortunately, Disdain didn't snap the golden cup in this contest.
In early 2001, Disdain again went to the Nemesis Studio to record their second demo, “Enter The Nightâ€. The demo was recorded in only ten hours, but the recordings went well. Right after the re-cordings, Disdain's present lead guitarist, Björn Dellming, joined the band, and the year 2001 contin-ued to be a chaotic year for Disdain. Keyboard player Elias Holmlid left the band in order to focus on his other band, Dragonland. Dennis Johansson and Niklas Örnfelt also left the band, both due to per-sonal reasons. The keyboard duties were taken over by Fredrik Johansson, and Anders Hammer was brought in as bass player. Dan Bäck, previously singer of Battering Ram, joined on vocals during the autumn, and a new line-up was completed.
During the fall of 2001, Disdain again entered “Göteborgstalangenâ€. This time the band made it to the second round, but didn’t make it all the way.
In January 2002, the time had come for yet another demo. The band went to Peekaboo Studio in Goth-enburg to do the recordings. The recordings were made during a weekend, and the demo was simply called “Demo 2002â€. So far this year, the band has performed live in the Gothenburg area, and future concerts are planned.
Anders Hammer has recently left the band to concentrate on another project; Telescope. Anders has been replaced by Mattias Bengtsson.
“Demo 2002†has been well received by the fans and Disdain will continue to produce hard rockin’ heavy metal music. Hopefully, we’ll see you at some place in the near future.
Stay alert for Disdain. See ya!
