Artist description
POISIN JETT GUNZ
Live, direct from the underworld comes Rock'n'Roll band "POISIN JETT GUNZ" . A glam/ punk three piece whose members when united form a specialized unit specifically skilled and experienced in the art of ROCKING YOUR ASS!! It's a band where early 70's Glam and Punk's first wave collide mid air with 80's hairspray swagger to form a highly toxic, highly rocking mixture. A fashion forward, modern concoction calculated to entertain and mesh along side the band's look. Known to whip out the odd cover by Iggy Pop, Kiss, or Motley Crue.
THE LOOK:
Band wears full on drag makeup, flashy clothes and high platform shoes. Liberal helpings of naughty movement and Rock'n'Roll posturing included with backdrop logo and amplifier fetishes.

Poisin Jett Gunz
The Cat Club was especially decorated that evening. Around the lights hung huge Chinese paper lamp covers, the big ball kind, red. Around the room, red fabric was draped around, reflecting the already red light and glowing. On the wall were guitars built by a friend of the club, all slightly stange shapes and all very cool. The back room had reflective paper stars everywhere, very glam, very fitting. Upon the back wall hung a huge hand-made sign that read "Poisin Joan Jett Gunz 'n Roses". I asked a few people around if they'd ever heard these guys play, no one had. Someone told me this was thier debut in front of a live audience. "Oh, great." I thought, "so, chances are, they'll suck."
Well, the band climbed up on stage, and they looked like they were straight out of Twisted sister. They had the hair, the makeup, the tight clothes... it was great. They started up, and I caught myself thinking "hey! This is pretty good!" they opened with "Rocket Ride", the riffs were fast, the drums were hard, and the bass was flowing... and most importantly, it got everyone in the mood for some quality hair rock. They followed with two more upbeat songs "Motorcycle Ride" and "Superfast Ride"... it was a wild ri- no... I'm stopping myself, that would have been lame.
The highlight of the night was a high-energy cover of Motley Crue's "Girls, Girls, Girls". They were joined onstage by members of another local band, Blue Period, who sang backup vocals. The song sounded great, and the band really got into the performance. They wound up the set, playing 5 more songs that night and left the stage to a loud round of applause.
Poisin Jett Gunz made a great impression for thier first show. They were loud, heavy, and hair... everything a hair metal band should be. Even though this was thier first live perfromance, they didn't freak out, on the contrary, they sat back and enjoyed themselves. All three members of the band played with enthusiasm, and all together sound great.
If you're like me... you try to avoid most things 80's. But, with a live show like this, Poisin Jett Gunz are my favorite 80s-rock band already, even if they are 15 years late.
If you'd like to catch a Poisin Jett Gunz show, I only know of one way to find out when and where they play. They have no website, so head to Haight and start looking for flyers on the streetposts... last time I was there, there were a'plenty of them.
