Artist description
"(One of them is fish)" is Pete...Sprague's self-produced debut release. Completed in March of 2001, the CD is a musical devil-may-care grab bag of pop stylings, written and recorded entirely at Firehole Productions, Pete's own recording facility in the Las Vegas valley. The disc is comparable in concept to the initial scaling of Mount Everest: "Because it was there; or more accurately, because it wasn't there. Everyone and his brother is putting out CDs these days, and I figured that it was my turn. Even if someone puts out something that stinks, I can't put down the effort." Why did you wait so long to do the record then? "Well, I forgot." The project's purpose was to see if in fact it could be completed, in spite of the widespread and well-deserved belief that a project studio cannot be used to actually complete an endeavour; it must constantly be upgraded, re-organized, re-configured, re-wired, re-constituted. Achieving tangible, musical results is contrary to the notion that as basement bombing musicians, we constantly need more toys, damnit. |

Artist History
Pete...Sprague was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Working as a semi-professional from the age of sixteen, his band quickly rose to the top of the local corporate market. He enlisted in the armed forces, but was found to be too mentally unstable, even for military service. Moving to Miami, FL after high school, Pete studied at the University of Miami with jazz piano giant Vince Maggio.
After earning his Bachelor of Music in 1985, ...Sprague toured with several Atlantic City-style show groups for three years, finally settling in the Las Vegas area in late 1988. He toured briefly with the soul group New Edition, left without getting shot, then landed the musical director position in Kristine and the Sting, a popular casino show group headed by dance music artist Kristine W. Headlining at the Las Vegas Hilton for six years, Pete earned a reputation as one of the most in-demand and punctual keyboardists /arrangers in the local music community.
He continues to enjoy that reputation today as lead instrumentalist and chartered accountant for the Susan McDonald Band, a diverse, attractive and well-armed musical outfit fronted by vocalist Susan McDonald. Backed up with ...Sprague, bassist/vegetable Sean Barney, and Steve ("Did you ever notice...") Grantham on drums and Parkinson's disease. The SMB plays regularly at several Las Vegas strip casinos, including New York New York, Aladdin, Orleans, Barbary Coast, and others. It also is in much demand as a corporate entertainment outfit, having provided convention music for Choice Hotels Corporation, McKesson Pharmacuticals, Standard Register Corporation, Chico's Bail Bonds, and many others. |
