Artist History
Kevin's extensive career began with his participation as both songwriter and bass player in two popular Canadian recording acts: Barney Bentall (originally Brandon Wolf) and Idle Eyes (Tad Campbell.) His co-written Idle Eyes hit "Sandra Doesn't Live Here Anymore" was nominated Song of the Year in 1987. Kevin is known for his distinct style and unique command of his first and primary instrument, the bass guitar. Kevin has opened for Collin James, and played in a variety of Vancouver-based bands (Karroll Brothers, Sparkling Apple, Juan Trak and The Jim Byrnes Band, to name a few). Kevin has spent the last few years working regularly as a guitar player and vocalist, performing a full calendar with his Top 40 acts: "Off the Hook" and "Push". He also subs in on bass with Vancouver's popular pub band "YVR". The completion of the CD "The Songs of Kevin Swain" marks years of writing and perfecting both his songs and the recording of them. He joined forces with Cheryl Catherine Smith in 2001, at the time when he was completing his "Songs of Kevin Swain" CD. Cheryl's experience in the entertainment industry has included several years as an international print and runway fashion model (John Casablancas and June Dally Watkins agencies); a film, television and theatre actor and having her own radio show on Vancouver's CISL AM 640. She has been singing and performing since she was a wee little lass, in choirs, plays and dance recitals. She wrote her first song at the age of twelve, recording it on to her antiquated tape machine. Her childhood dream was always to be a singer, writer and performer. In 1999, she dusted off this dream and began working with John Peacox of Deepsong Productions. She was a session singer and worked with Cherelle Jardine (Bleeding Water) and up and coming country sensation Vince Roy. Her more recent experiences include: performing as back-up singer for the Canadian supergroup "BTO" (alongside the divine Miss Laura Bacon), performing at Vancouver's famous Commodore Ballroom as well as lead singer for the country trio "Ryder" (2001-2003.) In May 2002 she received her BA degree in Studio Art/English from UBC (you can check out some of her work in the Images section.) Her time is now devoted to creating "Art" - concentrating on writing and performing with partner Kevin Swain. Pale Shelter is their original music "umbrella" name. |
