Artist description
What can I say about this elixir? On the nine song Love, Hate & Dignity (available Fall 2001), Frances mixes things up and bakes them into a surprisingly cohesive whole. Although the record is based around Songs (think East River Pipe, think Downey Mildew), Frances surprises us with her instincts as a Musician: from an Eastern flavored, sometimes percussive banjo style to electric guitar landscapes that'll come as a revelation to Aurora Paralysis fans and offer hope to admirers of Neil Young's best work (1969-75). West Coast Post-Slowcore from Southern Appalachian, perhaps? |

Imagine Tom Waits as a girl with a really pretty voice and a Harry Chapin string section and you'll likely be terribly confused (there are some affinities nonetheless). |

Artist History
Frances was in Aurora Paralysis, a project which began as Frances herself. The band was part of the early 90's Richmond scene that produced Eggs and Labradford. In addition to two homemade cassettes, there were three well received 7" releases. She has been involved with a range of other musical activities as well: her voice appears on Scaley Andrew's cover of "Girl from Ipanema" and various Eerie Materials releases (Eeyore Power Tool, Everything Eats a Squirrel). Love, Hate & Dignity marks Frances' return to music after an eight year absence. |

Press Reviews
"The music she creates has the kind of shimmering beauty and coherence that lesser talents (like pretty much everyone on 4AD) would kill for." - Andrew Beaujon, Retro Potato / "Alternately soothing and disquieting, like nightmares when you're trying to sleep on a bad couch. It's not quite up there with MY Aurora fave, 'The Messenger,' but it's plenty for you, bub." - review of "Borrow my Body," Mike Gangloff, Indie-List Digest / "The Aurora Paralysis song is long and great and amazing and so ethereal and complex. I like it. It is 'Stickman Waltz'." -Steven Silverstein, Indie-List Digest. |
