    Artist History
Poppermost is a 60's & 70's style alternative pop/rock band based in Las Vegas, Nevada created by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Alex Oliver, along with bassist, Roy Al Rendahl, who also provides the audio and visual artistry for the band. The name originates from the early Beatles' inspirational call and response, ". . .to the toppermost of the poppermost." Formed on July 4, 2001 in the act of escaping a bad fit with a previously "attempted" band, it truly was a day of independence. Destiny brought these two artists together, like music soul mates. Now a year later, still a perfect fit of two, they have released their debut CD, Poppermost, featuring ten refreshing songs that celebrate the struggle to find something different in life, love, and longing utilizing the genres of rock, pop, and world beat. It has been praised as a "damn good CD. . ." by Derek Sivers, Founder of CD Baby, online record distribution for indie artists. While recording, Poppermost gained exposure by playing out at local open mic events and soon they were performing at invitational-only venues like the House of Blues' Acoustic Asylum. They also made their music available via several Internet sites including Broadjam, where they have had three songs reach the Top 10, Western Division. Several Poppermost originals including "Farrah," "Rose-Coloured," "This Time Tomorrow," and "Wishing Well" are receiving airplay on a local commercial radio station. They continue making inroads to radio stations nationwide. The diversity and quality of their songs bring varied reactions from listeners, from the desire to get up and dance, to joyous enthusiasm, to impulsive hand clapping, to jaw-dropping awe. During a performance of their song, "Where the Guilty Prayed," one listener said, "The lyrics are so powerful. They really move me." Another fan has declared the music "addictive" and "never gets tired of listening to it." To Poppermost, music equals life and it means having the excitement of a rock 'n' roll party, the exhilaration of a spiritual revival and the energy of a dance party, but in the end everything always comes back to rock 'n' roll. Their goal is to make a great living making great music, whether originals or covers, for everyone. Poppermost is taking "retro" into a new century.

    Press Reviews
CD Review from the August 29, 2002 issue (p. 27) of Las Vegas Weekly, Music Noise: For the Record POPPERMOST (Suicide Pop! Records) POPPERMOST On its self-titled debut, Poppermost pops on through pleasant, pure and psychedelic musical licks. This newly formed band consists of singer/songwriter, guitarist and pianist Alex Oliver and Roy Al Rendahl, who plays bass. The album's sound could be best described as a mix of the'60s band America, a little bit of the feel-good band Phish, and the unassuming charm of Elvis Costello. The easy groove of the acoustics matched with harmonizing vocals takes you to a different time and place. The disc opens with the upbeat and quirky "Bang Bang." Oliver's distorted voice is reminiscent of Social Distortion's Mike Ness, and the song even has that great rockabilly vibe. This is one track that demands repeated play because of its infectious rhythm and lyrics. Poppermost not only offers up happy upbeat songs but lays down some serious tracks that give the album substance. With "Lady-In-Waiting," about a young woman's lost battle with cancer, Poppermost delivers a beautifully sad song. This new band and its new album are worth lighting the incense, clearing the mind and letting the music take you on a magic carpet ride. -Shawna Edge, Las Vegas Weekly
