Press Reviews
"Avant-garde...that mixes melodies and crunching rhythms...powerful vocals and impressive basslines..." - Foundations, Hot Hopefuls"Damn good band...(Wendelken) has a captivatingly violent edge to her delivery...mature subtleties that set them apart in even more ways from their contemporaries..." - Aquarian/East Coast Rocker"Aware, intense lyrics...Crunching rhythms built on interesting bass lines spiced with nice guitar work...Susan Wendelken is aggressive, shocking, recommended!" - The Music Paper/Musician's Exchange"Definitely one step beyond...mixing soft textures with power chords, angry lyrics and brutal melodies...what a trip." - Good Times"Shredding with the best of them...live is the way to experience the gift of One Step Beyond." - The Island Ear"...Very catchy hooks and a female vocalist with a strong voice...the talent involved...I actually enjoyed this!" - Under the Volcano"Impressive songs...this band is definitely worth checking out." - Sound Views"OSB puts on a show that goes straight for the central nervous system...Wendelken delivers the band's empowering tunes with more force than a sledghammer...impressive guitar licks...pounding rhythms...they definitely kick some mean a--." - The Angle"...I was impressed by the honesty and substance...(the music) is very tough and honest - looking forward to a full-length release form One Step Beyond." - The Magazine"Emotional, unique...OSB combines male and female energies to form a formidable power metal band...they are reviving an almost lost art." - Queens Herald"One Step Beyond? A gutsy name for a band to bestow upon itself. But this unconventional and powerful quartet most definitely lives up to the insinuations the name creates...solid instrumentation...Susan Wendelken wails with a primal intensity that is almost uncomfortable to listen to, it is so revealing. Often in the Nebula you will hear the words "hesitant" or "unconfident" when describing certain artists of material in our reviews. Let me assure you, these are terms that would most certainly NOT be used to describe the music of OSB." - The Crab Nebula/Modern Musician's Monthly"This metal band kicks some mean a--. Gritty, powerful style with angry, streewise lyrics and brutally fine musicianship...the singer is heavier than, and has more soul and drive than Courtney Love, Lita Ford, and Doro Pesch ever dreamed of...one of the best I've ever heard...go for it!" - Ballbusters"...Potent, punishing and pissed, this four-piece aggression session will raise a few eyebrows...Unlike most of their peers OSB is stunningly melodic...misery has rarely been this entertaining." - Long Island Entertainment"A well oiled, extremely tight, industrially influenced, thunderous groove machine, that frames, hustles and pumps Sue Wendelken's ballsy banshee wail. Not an easy thing for a female voice in this heavy, hard place. But, you know....this is what defines them most and they handle it well. This has got to be one ferocious band live..." - Extreme Magazine |
