Artist History
Steve is an idealist.
Dale is a rationalist.
In 1997 the two swapped favorite Sonic Youth records and discovered an uncanny similarity in musical tastes. Steve on drums, Dale on guitar: that similarity in taste translated to an instinctual compatibilty. Playing together frequently, the vision began to take shape.
Ryan is a skeptic.
With his guitar and a steady chordal counterpoint, he joined in 1998 and Midsummer was born. Jason Blandford played bass but only for a little while. In Steve's garage they wrote their first songs together. Three months later, the first Midsummer recording was made in one week with the invaluable assistance of Andy Prickett. The five songs were called Catch and Blur and were released on compact disc in spring of 1999. The guys liked Catch and Blur and played some shows in California.
Jay is a stoic.
He took Jason's place on bass, and piano too, and made Midsummer complete. The band settled down with deliberation and made lofty plans for more recording. They played more shows and wrote more songs, and in July of 2000 started recording with Mr. Prickett once again. Moon Shadow these recordings were called, and with great amounts of time and effort were they completed. During the summer and in the middle of recording, Midsummer played some more shows in California, Utah, and Colorado. The Moon Shadow recording process lasted eight months, being completed in the third month of 2001, and being released a few weeks later. The guys liked Moon Shadow and played some more shows.
Action is a hedonist.
Shows were played and a decision was made that Action should enhance the aural experience with keys and a third guitar. In October of 2002 This Ageless Night, a recording with five songs each from friends Midsummer and Coastal was released by SunSeaSky records. The guys liked This Ageless Night and toured to the great city of New York to play at CMJ, with several shows along the way.
NOW they wait with pockets full of songs for money to make the latest and greatest recording: a Midsummer full-length record. |

--Delusions of Adequacy
"Four unique and individual songwriters make up Midsummer and each have contributed a blissful dream-pop song to this dazzling EP. (Moon Shadow is) a very engaging and beautiful thirty-one minutes of music."
--Swizzle-Stick"
(Catch and Blur is) a beautiful debut EP: 5 songs of delicate poetry and soft, padded sounds."
--Losing Today
"As far as self-released albums go, (Catch and Blur) is certainly the best done that I have seen. Beautiful, atmospheric music... quite moving, and each listen makes these songs grow on me. I'm so happy to see an emphasis on beautiful song making coming back. Fantastic vocals and some wonderful music. Definitely a band to look for if you appreciate beauty in music."
