Artist History
Music has been a life-long dream for Lucky Tourist, known by some as simply Greg Short. Early on, he had false starts in traditional methods of learning both the piano and trumpet, but with little success. He gave them both up within a few years. In his early teens, when he discovered electronic music -- especially the New Age music of Tangerine Dream -- he had his calling. But it wasn't until 1998 -- when he could finally afford a synthesizer -- that his dreams of making music started becoming a reality. Early in 1999, he took on the moniker Lucky Tourist (taken from the titles of two Radiohead songs). He quickly released an ambient album on cassette -- dubbed on his personal stereo -- to friends and family. MP3.com, however, brought him his biggest successes. His song "Twist" caught the attention of a filmmaker, and it was used in a series of commercials for Dime Savings Bank and the New York Knicks late in 1999. About that same time, the song was selected to be used on a magazine-style television show. (The show was too short-lived for the song to ever make it on the air.) In 2000, Lucky Tourist achieved what he thought might be a peak in his blooming career: Jane Siberry granted him permission to remix one of her songs! (He's awaiting approval....) Who knows what 2001 and beyond hold for him? |
