    Artist description
Big Deel is a three piece, new school punk band from the South-bay area of San Diego. Although their brand of pop-punk is a unique style all on it's own, they have been compared to such bands as Mxpx, Blink-182, and NOFX. The band says that their wide variety of musical influences help create an overall sound that anyone can enjoy. If not known for their unique sound, they sure are for their energetic live performances. This band really knows how to work a crowd. Between their stupid jokes, TJ's smokin' guitar solo's, Keaton's technical drumming and Jimy's bizarre onstage antics, Big Deel has their fans in a state of total awe from the begining to the end of the show. Big Deel will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the near and distant future...

    Artist History
Big Deel was originally formed in November of 1998 as a five piece indie pop/rock band. As a 5-piece they recorded a 6-song sampler simply titled "Super Sampler" with Veggie Records in May of 1999. The two lead singers and main song writers of the band quit in that same summer to form a christian worship band. The remaining members decided to stick with the band and reformed in late September. They wrote new songs and they practiced them over and over and soon started playing shows at several parties, coffee houses, and bars to get their music out to the public. After biulding up their fan base through out the rest of the year 2000 by playing at more well known venues, like the Casbah, Epicenter, Canes, etc. and putting out a live album, Big Deel decided it was finally time to put together a good quality demo to distribute and show that they mean business. "Scratch & Sniff," their first official release, hit the streets and so did Big Deel... Playing several more shows, the band promoted their new cd but were only able to sell about 50 cds before they took a big dive with in the first 2 months of the release. Keaton had been in his friend's new emo band filling in on drums and soon became a permanent member... both bands were in conflict and Keaton's other band was getting more attention. Without being able to schedule more shows, Big Deel was forced into a stalemate. TJ went off to an engineering school over the summer of 2001 and Big Deel was left without a guitarist and a drummer. Soon the only remaining member, Jimy, started writing songs awaiting the return of his other members. TJ was to soon return but to only join Keaton with his other band... Jimy decided it was time to put Big Deel aside till the time was right and joined ThreeFoot... check them out - http://www.threefoot.net

    Press Reviews
--- Digital City --- Big Deel plays with earnest vigor and the best of musical intentions. If only that could be enough. They show potential in their ability and inclination to vary the pace within their repertoire. The guys have even penned a clever spoof on the Jerry Springer Show. Yet all this heartfelt devotion cannot overshadow the band's greatest weakness: its vocals. The drums compound the problem with a distracting metal quality that doesn't seem to belong. These budding songwriters need to keep at it and stretch themselves in terms of their subject matter among other things. As they grow and mature and continue with this dedication, chances are they'll ultimately fill the form. -- Dylan Roberts
