Artist History
The epic that is The Mattress Testars began at the end of 8th grade year for us. This would be about May 2000. The band was started by friends Andrew Krupansky (guitar, vox) and Jason Bates (alto sax) who both shared the love of performing and music, specifically ska. The two soon began writing songs and collaborating with friend Will Elkins (bass) and Jon Postema (bari sax). Now all that was needed was Adam Crepeau on drums to complete the band in order to play at the 8th grade talent show, the bands very first gig. Lets just say it was our first gig and kind of our first taste of performing in front of a large audience and I guess we liked it so much that we decided to keep with it, thankfully we did! That summer Jason took off on vacation and what not, leaving the band with one horn player back in lonely Novi. This would not be for long. Andrew's life-long, brother-like friend John Paul Sherbeck (trumpet) would join the group that summer and give TMT a line-up good enough to play our second show, the first-annual NoviPalooza. We sucked. We didn't realize it at the time that many of our horn parts were off key (hey give us a break we were new at this). Anyways, when Jason returned that fall we would fix all that. Adam Crepeau left the band only to shortly be replaced by John Gazette (drums). This would give TMT the line-up is has today. It has been 2 years since then and we have only gotten better at what we do, writing songs and playing shows. We have also released 2 self-released cd's since then and are working on our 3rd. Whats next for these talented young musician? Who knows, but as for right now we are having the time of our lives. And trust us, it's not easy being rock stars. |
