Artist History
In 1991, longtime friends Azra Medea and Docion were each looking for a foot in the heavy metal industry as vocalists. Finding that few people in the area in which they lived understood thir desire to create original, thought provoking music, Docion took up his Italian film music inspired keyboard playing and with Azra Medea backing him up with her serene and surreal vocal stylings, Alucarda was borne.
Initial recordings were made with a toy electronic keyboard and low end echo box through the auxiliary input of a componant stereo system. These were heard by Leilah Wendell, owner of the infamous Westgate Gallery of Necromantic Art and Literature in New Orleans. She was taken by their work and convinced them to continue.
Leilah was at the forefront of the Goth movement, heretofore unknown by Alucarda. All their music had origins in art-rock, film scores and baroque classical influences, breeding a fresh unique goth music sound.
Alucarda continued to create, buying a simple four track cassette deck and simple drum machine. Material recorded with this equipment makes up what is most of, "The Trickster & The Fool," including it's epic 16 minute title track.
During the making of this album, Docion began working in journalism, regarding his passion for independent horror films. This led to Alucarda's first film score, an unfinished work entitled "The Nightmare Man" for The Red Partners. A suspense / noir project.
Shortly after this, Alucarda provided the complete score for Tim Ritter's sixth feature, "Creep". "Creep" stars Cathy Willits, the center of a Palm beach political scandal, in which her husband, a lawman, set her up with clients in a prostitution racket. The film has been a featured subject on "A Current Affair", "E-Entertainment News", "Oprah", "MTV Entertainment News" & "Sally Jesse Raphael". The film has also been featured in articles in "Draculina", "Fangoria", and "Premiere" magazines.
Alucarda immediately upgraded their equipment, so that professional keys could be used in creating the soundtrack for "Creep". The result is a sweeping neo-orchestral odyssey of sound. This equipment was used for the completion and simultaneous release of "The Trickster & the Fool".
Since then, Docion has served as CO-producer with outside parties on the restoration of several obscure soundtracks, and as CO-producer on a double CD tribute entitled "For Lucio Fulci: A Symphony of Fear".
Alucarda's interpretation of Fabio Frizzi's "Voci Dal Nulla" for this album went on to receive great acclaim, and has been used in part to underscore the supplemental section of "The Beyond", on DVD as released by Grindhouse in association with Quentin Tarantino's Rolling Thunder Pictures on Anchor Bay video. The DVD was released both in standard disk case and a spectacular collector's tin. The duo have recorded and released material here and on several other compilation projects.
Alucarda have also contributed to the feature film soundtracks of an Italian production entitled "Sick-O-Pathics", A short subject by Alucarda's guru of art and photography Alexondro Ojeda entitled "Halloween:Night of the Creepoids", Kevin Lindenmuth's "Addicted to Murder 2", a 16mm experimental feature entitled "The Corn Shukker", and have mostrecently recorded the score for a feature thriller. Many of these film music works can now be heard for the first time on The Alucarda Channel.
At present, Alucarda are working on their newest collection of original songs, "The Mausoleum". A couple of advance recordings can now be heard free at mp3.com, along with select tracks from "The Trickster and the Fool" and assorted film music. CDs will be available very soon. |
