After moving to London at the age of four, she first picked up a violin at the age of five, and her precocious ability rapidly became apparent, as she proceeded to astonish a series of demanding teachers. It was clear that specialist training was warranted, and at the age of eight she embarked upon an intensive period of study with Professor Lin Yao Ji at the National Conservatoire of Music in Beijing. Vanessa-Mae returned to London a fully-fledged virtuoso, and continued to hone and perfect her style at London’s Royal College of Music. Vanessa-Mae made her world debut to a sensational reception at the Schleswig Holstein Festival in 1988, and made her UK concerto debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra the same year.
