Artist description
Unsui (pronouned "oon-soo-ee")is a jam-oriented rock band with emphasis on improvisation and spontaneity. Like the definition of the zen term, Unsui's music both lacks and possesses structure (a sort of organized chaos if you will). Able to cover multiple genres in a single set, almost all of Unsui's songs are titled after the genre they resemble. |

Press Reviews
The best description of the band Unsui and the music that these three college students make could only be described as controlled chaos. As a jam band, these guys have talent and skill. On this, their first recorded effort, Extremely Unprofessional Demos and Nonsense, they demonstrate this fact fully, as there are no lyrics to any of the six songs.
In fact if you listen closely, you will notice that of six songs, Five aptly describe the genre of the music and the song matches it perfectly. Philip Heesen’s mastery of guitar is evident as he hardly misses a lick and uses every guitar gimmick he can, especially on “Rock” and “Surf”. “Funk” allows bassist Robbie King to show his slap-bass technique and keeps right in time. The only song on the CD that does not describe a genre of music is track #4, which is the band’s send up of the popular 80’s video game “Mario” theme.
Having seen these guys play live it can be said that they have a bright future ahead of them. -Richmond Music Journal (Nov '01)- |
