    Artist History
RAIZ, a band formed in early 1997 was formed in Bogotá D.C. , the capital city of Colombia. It is not easy to play rock music around there. The lack of musical industry and the security problems that labeled us as “the most dangeruos country in the world†(According to the CIA), have created a great wall between major bands (who won’t come around) and the colombian audience. Anyway, RAIZ was formed when Juan Camilo Osman, after trying with a couple of drummers and bass players, finally got in touch with Santiago Tejeiro and Jonathan Specktor. Then, began to rehearse at the drummer’s house where they jammed on some Sepultura’s and Deftones’ songs until they decided that the time to find a singer and write their own stuff had come. So they did it, found a friend that would take over the vocal duty and managed to write 4 songs to play them live. At the beggining it was very difficult, this was the first band for all of them but after their first gigs, some recognition was earned what made them feel that they could get to improve and try to find their own sound. After some time, RAIZ felt that it could expand its musical horizons by including another guitarrist so they began to play with Nicolás Corredor an old friend whose band broke up. The band began playing in local clubs, bars, parks, even in Rock at the Park, (South America’s most important rock festival with over 200.000 assistance) which was a very impactating experience. RAIZ has travelled to Colombia’s major cities and have found that it has more fans that they tought. Recently featured in a TV show called Muchmusic, where they got interviewed and played 2 songs live, also their live shows have been reviewed as some of the best in the city in local magazines and fanzines. After some time, RAIZ had a second lineup change, due to the level of compromise and musical aspirations, the first singer (Juan Sebastian Jaramillo) left the band leaving them with the headache of having to find a new singer. After a 6 month search they finally met Carlos Alberto Torres (Toto),who was a bass player that discovered while fooling around that he could actually sing to the gut so he left his bass guitar and joined RAIZ. After the lineup changes RAIZ decided to write new material and after a long process of self-producing their songs, the band recorded a 4 song Ep where they show some of their stuff. Their fans really liked it so there were sold over 500 undergroud copies of it. In Colombia its better to sing in spanish but they are arranging right now the english versions of the four songs. -"Right now and after almost 5 years of hard work in which we have known each other up to becoming best friends, we will continue to work and to rise both musically and as persons"-. declared the band members...
