Artist description
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Born and raised in The Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, 20-something
guitarist/singer/producer/music maniac Todd Pope's muse was shaped and formed by the
same cold winters, long nights, and stodgy, politically correct atmosphere that helped inspire
fellow Midwestern rockers The Replacements, Husker Du, and Disturbed. I first met him in 1994,
not long before the death of Kurt Cobain, and through that long, dark summer, Pope's love for
(and insatiable thirst for knowledge of) music helped myself and a group of disillusioned older
music fans deal with, move past, and even find inspiration in what could've been just another
senseless rock tragedy. Though Pope has been a Christian for as long as I've known him, he's
never preached, judged, or nagged anyone about his beliefs. And though he's periodically fallen
off of the God Wagon, he's never lost his deep-seated faith or his magic touch with a guitar,
a tape deck, and an amp (and sometimes just one of the three!). This is a guy who lives and
breathes the true spirit of indie rock and roll, and loves just about every kind of honest
music, musical instrument, and musician. When I think of how talented and quick to learn he was
nearly 7 years ago, compare it to how far he's come in that time, and multiply it by how much
knowledge and passion he'll soak up in the next seven, I'm flabbergasted. This is a guy that
the next generation of Twin Cities (and beyond) music freaks will look up to in awe and
emulation, but he won't care. He'll be happily ensconced in a dimly lit studio somewhere,
cooking up another heady mix of loud, rough rock, lyrical stimulation, and spiritual harmony.
Viva Pope!
