Biography
In December the year 1999 in a place called Edsberg in Sollentuna, a suburb north of Stockholm two people decided to start a band together. These two were keyboardist Josephine Forsberg and bassist Mathias Arvidsson. They started searching for people interested in joining the band. In Solna they found Josephines old friend German. He became the bands drummer. The search went on and the one to play guitar came to be Mathias' pal Manuel. Through the internet community Skunk another guitarist was found, Thomas. Josephine wanted to call the band Ghazurz Burzum, but the others thought that translating that into Burning Darkness sounded way cooler and so, the birth of the new metal band was a fact. But wait... Somebody has to do the singing. A guy called Martin was tried out, but Per from the band Svartur Dödur was chosen to take care of the vocals. Shortly thereafter when songs were beginning to be composed Manuel was kicked out and Sebastian, also from Svartur Dödur was brought in.
As the song writing and rehearsing went on the band gave it's first live performance in October 2000. The response was pretty good. Just before the gig Josephine had left the band, but rejoined for a short period after the gig and then left permanently before the recording of the first demo. Burning Darkness has played without a keyboardist since.
The first demo, "Risen out of Hell", was recorded in November 2000 at Chaos Practise Studios in Trångsund, Stockholm, with Jari Lindholm and Danne Albertsson. The recording was indeed pretty chaotic, but most parts turned out the way they were supposed to on the finished product.
The year 2001 went on with a few gigs and planning the second demo. A whole lot of songs were written. In the summer forces in the band drove Mathias out of the band, because his talent was questioned. He was also about to do his military service in the autumn. Ville "Ishamael" Andersson, a long time friend of the band replaced Mathias. Later on in the autumn Sebastian quit the band due to not having the time needed to stay as a member. The day after Joel was the new guitarist.
Winter came and Burning Darkness entered once again Chaos Practise in January and recorded their second demo: "As Night Falls". The band has sold the demo when playing live, and the response has been quite positive.
Spring was quite chaotic for the band, because they were thrown out of their old rehersal place, since a hip/hop studio was going to be built there. Some cool live performances also took place, among them a kick-ass gig, supporting Mörk Gryning.
The band had almost no activity during the summer 2002, except for the fact that we found a new place to rehearse in.
In autumn 2002 Burning Darkness went through a line-up change, and Thomas began to play keyboard instead of guitar a couple of rehersals. Not long thereafter, in September, he quit the band, since he claimed that he didn't enjoy playing black metal any longer, and decided to focus on his soloproject. He was soon followed by Joel, who also quit the band since he didn't have the time to stay due to his priority for school.
So, left were Per, German and Ishamael. They swiftly began to search after new members, which quickly were found, a new keybordist and a guitarist. Ishamael took up leadguitar instead of bass and started to write a couple of new songs with German. Sadly, the newfound members didn't have any serious talent and didn't put enough time on the band. So after a couple of rehearsals they were thrown out since the band saw the return of Joel.
Rehearsal and playing live continued. Session bass player Eric played with the band at a couple of gigs in November 2002 and on the recording of the third demo "Rites of Mist" in Febuary-March of 2003 another session musician, Moncho, played bass. Thomas made a guest appearance on the demo playing keyboard.
Burning Darkness keeps going. Make sure to see them play live this spring.
