Press Reviews
Philadelphia City Paper March 8-15, 2001
Washington DC's Burglar takes the parlance of hip-hop,
like "Put your hands in the air" and applies it to
persecution at the hands of the police. "Get Down"
and "I Sold Your Bike" are destined for serious
airplay soon on a radio near you and lead singer
Simonbone does a great Chuck D on a cover of Public
Enemy's "Black Steel." Guitarist Jimmy Valentine
demonstrates an obvious Hendrix influence, while
the rhythm section of John "Hot Rod" Williams (bass)
and Rob Cheat-Steal (drums) lends a soulful groove
steeped equally in Bad Brains and Trouble Funk.
Burglar opened for Cypress Hill a few weeks ago,
and their self produced debut "I'll Give You
Something to Cry About" is due out this winter.
In the meantime, don't miss a powerful live show
at the Pontiac this Friday. |
